Issues in child development

(EDU)

6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula/Clayton campuses + No prerequisites

Synopsis: This unit will consider a range of current issues and provide an overview of theories of the growth and development of children across different domains (e.g., cognitive, emotional, physical, social and language) along with theories of learning. The unit will emphasise the need for students to consider themselves as both learners and researchers examining ways in which these factors assist their own professional development, skills, backgrounds, values and attitudes, as well as the developmental needs of individual children within the early childhood years.

Assessment: Task 1: A portfolio of current written reports 2000 words: 40%. Task 2: A written analysis 3000 words: 60%.
