Child development principles

(EDU)

6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula + Clayton campuses + No prerequisites

Synopsis: Focus on the overall development of children aged 0 - 5 years, and the implications of development for learning, teaching and other aspects of practice in early childhood services. Emphasis on the inter-relation of areas or domains of development and impacting factors so that students gain a comprehensive picture of children at various developmental stages and ages. Will emphasise the need for students to critically reflect on their understanding and knowledge of child development as a basis for responding to individuals and groups of children and in designing, utilising and undertaking valid and reliable assessment.

Assessment: Task 1: An examination to assess the major developmental milestones in, and characteristics of, early childhood: 50%. Task 2: A written report : (2500 words): 50%
