Methods and practice of teaching psychology

12 points + 2 hours per week + Full-year + Clayton + Gippsland + Prerequisites: A minor sequence in psychology

Synopsis: Preparation for teaching psychology in post-primary schools as a discrete subject in middle school and Years 11 and 12 and in a range of middle school and junior school subjects such as health, life skills, personal development, pastoral care and social education. Design, implementation and evaluation of effective curriculum and teaching programs. Teaching skills and various resources and strategies including observations, field studies and experiments. Ethical issues.

Assessment: Lesson plans: 20% + Curriculum resources to support one area of unit 1 or 3 (equivalent to 2000 words): 30% + Curriculum resources to support one area of unit 2 or 4 (equivalent to 2000 words): 30% + Use of technology resources in psychology, eg CD ROM or internet: 20%
