Methods and practice of teaching mathematics

(EDU)

12 points + 2 hours per week + Full-year + Clayton + Gippsland + Prerequisites: Mathematics minor

Synopsis: Compulsory for students taking mathematics as a single method, using some other discipline for their second method. Students broaden their awareness of mathematics as a subject; develop a knowledge of teaching styles and methods in mathematics; explore the needs of various groups of children; develop a knowledge of the resources available to a teacher of mathematics; and learn essential parts of school mathematics not previously studied.

Assessment: Teaching round observation and reflection 10% + Content area analysis 40% + Applications and context presentation 40% + Teaching round folio 10% + Hurdle requirement: 80% attendance and satisfactory completion of supervised school experience.
