Dr J Southcott 6 points + Second semester + Distance + Prerequisites: Students who have completed GEC4465 and/or GEC4466 may not undertake this unit Synopsis: The philosophy and practices of classroom music education. The focus is on music curricula - their theoretical underpinning, development, implementation and evaluation. Influential philosophical approaches to music education, such as those of Swanwick, Reimer, Paynter and Elliott. Current classroom music practices and pedagogical approaches, such as those of Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Schafer. The potential role of music in integrated programs. Assessment: Essay (500 words, ungraded compulsory requirement) + Report (1500 words): 40% + Project (2000 words): 60% |
