EDF3506Cultural studies (Early Childhood)(EDU)
To be advised 6 points + Second semester + Peninsula + 2-hour session and 10 hours of individual study per week Synopsis: This subject will examine the complex contexts involved in young children's enculturation into society. These factors include family, kinship, early education and the relevant value systems operating. Consideration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the complexity and diversity of other cultural groups in Australia will provide the students with cross-cultural understandings. Concepts of cultural enrichment, tolerance and equity was well as concepts of disadvantage, discrimination, prejudice and ethnocentrism in relation to early childhood education provision will be examined. Assessment: Written assignment (3000 words): 60% + Reflective Journal (2000 words): 40% |
