Perspectives on teaching

6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester Clayton, Peninsula + First semester (Gipps only for 2001) + Prerequisite: EDF1301

Synopsis: This unit examines a range of perspectives on teaching. Through lectures, fieldwork in schools or "other settings (ie, preschools)" and study of various writings and views of "teaching" across the sites of Home and Society, Schools and Classroom, the units as students to appreciate the elements of teaching in different sites and circumstances. Recognition and understanding of various models, approaches and elements of teaching will be examined, discussed and critiqued.

Assessment: Written assignment (1000 words): 25% + A major assignment based on practicum experience (1600 words): 40% + A written assignment (1400 word equivalence): 35% + Attendance requirement: Eighty percent + Hurdle requirement: 5 days observation
