ECF5430Islamic economics(BUS) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Associate Professor Marika Vicziany 6 points + Lectures and seminar: 3 hours per week + Second semester + Caulfield + Prerequisites: Completion of four of the 4000 level subjects (including two core economics subjects) in the Master of Applied Economics or their equivalent, subject to the approval of the course director. Synopsis: Is there an Islamic Economics? How does it differ from neo-classical and Marxist economics? Can an Islamic Economics be implemented? We analyse why and how Islamic economies have risen to global prominence. As academic experts who have worked in Islamic countries, we review the evolution of Islamic Economics and its impact on the policies of governments and corporations in the Middle East, South and South East Asia and the international organisations that deal with these economies. Assessment: Written (4000-word research report): 40% + Tutorial presentation: 10% + Examination (3 hours): 50% |
