ECF5400Strategies and policies for economic development(BUS)
Associate Professor Robert Rice 6 points + Lectures and seminar: 3 hours per week + Second semester + Caulfield + Prerequisites: Completion of four of the 4000 level subjects (including the two core economics subjects) in the Master of Applied Economics or their equivalent, subject to the approval of the course director. Synopsis: We analyse the transformation in the Asian economies with specific reference to the structure of industry, factor migration and urbanisation, the transfer of technology and related institutional changes. The role of government in these processes will be examined and evaluated against selected theories of economic growth and development. How development theory has interacted or not interacted with solutions to practical problems is considered through a case study approach which includes an analysis of Australian aid funding. Assessment: Written (4000-word research report): 40% + Tutorial presentation: 10% + Examination (3 hours): 50% |
