S Jenvey 4 points + 24 lectures, 24 laboratory and tutorial hours + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: ENG1301, MEC1415 Synopsis: Physical phenomena to monitor and measure: temperature, pressure, flow, direction, displacement, angle, vibration, linear and rotational velocity and acceleration. Transducers and Analog to Digital Converters. Transducer bridges and amplifiers. Photo detectors and fibre optics. Solid state silicon transducers and smart sensors. Basic Electronics for use in Instrumentation: Operational amplifiers and signal conditioning Analog to digital converters of various types. Use of wire cable and fibre optics. Actuator Control: open and closed loop systems, simple control theory, servo systems, stepper motors, solenoids, hydraulic actuators. Assessment: Examination (3 hours ): 70% + Tests and assignments: 30% |
