ECC2510Australian economic history(BUS)
Associate Professor Tony Dingle 6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Any two of ECC1000, ECC1100, ECC1510 or equivalent + Prohibitions: ECC3510, ECC3514 Synopsis: The economic development of Australia during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with an emphasis on fluctuations in growth rates and changes in the structure of the economy over time. Topics include the development of land-based resources in the nineteenth century, especially pastoralism, gold and agriculture; industrialisation behind tariff barriers in the twentieth century; deregulation of the economy in the recent past; development of economic institutions; the changing role of government in the economy. Assessment: Written (2500-word essay): 40% + Tutorial assessment: 10% + Examination (2 hours): 50% |
