CSE2180Relational database(IT) Not offered in 2001 R Simpson 8 points + 4 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: BUS1010, COT1700 + Prohibitions: BUS2112, CFR2132, CFR2201, COT2132, COT2138, COT2180, COT2901, COT3180, CSC3161, CSE2132, CSE2138, CSE3180, CSE3316 Synopsis: Database concepts including structured information, serial storage, sequential file organisation, extracting, sorting, merging and updating data. Random access file organisation, random and relative file organisation, key transforms and indexing techniques will be addressed. Logical data structures (such as trees, networks, lists and rings) and database models. The theory and practice of relational database management systems, distributed databases, object-oriented databases. Introduction to formal query languages, specifically SQL. Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 50% + Practical work, laboratory work, seminar participation and assignment: 50% |
