Lacan and subjectivity

Synopsis: An introductory reading of the difficult psychoanalytic texts of the French psychoanalyst, Jacques Lacan. His accounts of the ego, subjectivity and otherness; the unconscious and desire /structured like a language0; the phallus and sexual difference. The subject shows his relevance to philosophical accounts of subjectivity, theories of literary and visual representation, and feminist theory.

Assessment: Seminar paper (3000 words): 20% + Essay (6000 words) OR two essays (3000 words): 80%
