CPE3013Internet Image Formats(IT)
Dr Lee Seldon 6 points + 4 hours per week + Peninsula + Prerequisites: CPE1004 plus a further 12 points of second year Network Computing study. Synopsis: Transmission of digital images, image factors which influence the transmission, especially various compression algorithms (GIF, JPEG, wavelets). Different algorithms for different types of images or for different purposes of transmission. Constraints on compression. Human factors influencing the requirements placed on transmitted images. Standard protocols, especially the DICOM 3.0 protocol for medical imaging. Java API classes for image transmission and display. Real-time imaging (videoconferencing) and appropriate standards (e.g., H.320, H.323, T.120) will be mentioned. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% Practical Assignments: 40% |
