6 points + Summer and second Semesters + Peninsula + 4 hours per week + Prerequisites: CPE2002 + a further 6 points of second year Network Computing subjects. Prohibitions: COT3020, DGS3670.

Synopsis: The structure of TCP/IP software in an operating system, network interface layer, address discovery and binding (ARP), Internet protocol (IP), routing, error-handling and multicasting in IP, user datagram protocol (UDP), transmission control protocol (TCP), output processing, timer management, flow control, urgent data processing, socket layer interface, application protocols (eg. DNS, DHCP, Telnet, TFTP, FTP, SMTP, NNTP), routing protocols (eg. RIP, IGRP), and network management protocols (eg. SNMP, CMOT, RMON).

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Practical Work: 40%
