6 points + 5 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula + Prerequisites: VCE Chinese + CSL or equivalent. Recognition of characters in A New Perspective, Book 1, L1-20 assumed (required to sit for a placement test to determine Chinese language proficiency) + Prohibitions: Pass in first language stream of VCE Chinese

Synopsis: Intermediate level spoken and written Chinese; intermediate level readings; readings (in English) on Chinese current affairs. Regular classroom activities will be supplemented through use of audiovisual materials to strengthen listening and reading skills.

Assessment: Weekly homework exercises: 10% + Fortnightly diary: 10% + Speaking/oral presentation in class: 15% + Performance in tutorials: 5% + Oral test: 15% + Written test (mid-semester test): 10% + Final exam: 35%
