Clinical dietetics 5

6 points + 12 hours contact + 20 hours in a clinical setting + 8 hours private study + Second Semester + Prerequisites: Completion of Years 1, 2 and 3 of the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics or its equivalent

Synopsis: Knowledge and practice are integrated in acute medical and surgical situations in an intensive three week curriculum where the students are assessed on knowledge, practice, and self management skills. Case management encountered on site will be studied to understand the principles and management of dietetics to the conditions of acute surgical, allergy, intensive care, burns and trauma patients across the life span. The place of medical nutrition therapy within the continuum of medical and surgical care, and the importance of the team approach of nutrition support will be emphasised.

Assessment: Examination: 40% + Analysis critical in tutorials: 30% + Case study presentation: 30%
