BIO2022Evolution and systematics(SCI)
Dr Martin Burd 6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour practical or equivalent + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites BIO1011 and EITHER BIO1022 or BIO1032 or BIO1042 Synopsis: The historical development of evolutionary ideas and the processes of natural selection as currently understood. Theories of evolutionary systematics and the use of these approaches in measuring and managing biodiversity. The history of life on earth and the role of evolutionary events such as mass extinctions and adaptive radiations in that history. Developmental and genetic processes in evolutionary change. Assessment: Mid-semester theory examination (1.5 hours): 20% + Final theory examination (2 hours): 20% + Written assignments: 25% + Practical assignments and quizzes: 35% |
