AUS2040Travel Writing and New Technologies(ART)
David Dunstan and Joanne Jacobs 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Berwick + Prohibition: AUS3040 Synopsis: The subject provides understanding of the role and practice of a range of communication media important to the tourism industry. Content is divided into a theoretical component, which examines the development, psychology and practice of travel publishing, and a practical component exploring applications of relevant new technologies to the industry. Travel publications studied include journal articles, brochures, guide books and media releases. Practical skills such as audience identification, web-page design and the implications of E-commerce in tourism are developed through the study of these media. Assessment: Book review (1000 words): 20% + Encyclopaedia entry (1000 words): 20% + Website production: 25% + Examination (90 minutes): 25% + Attendance and participation: 10% |
