Synopsis: A general overview of the industry in the Australian context emphasising the socio-economic importance of tourism, the variety of destinations and patterns of tourism, and the motivation for travel. Resort development, special events, the nature and significance of cultural issues and ecotourism, and the structure of the domestic and international tourist industry. The significance of indigenous culture and the role of government.

Assessment: Field exercise (1500 words): 30% + Essay (2000 words): 35% + Examination: 25% + Tutorial attendance and completion of work requirements: 10%
