ASN4499Honours seminar in Asian studies(ART)
Ross Mouer and Bruce Jacobs 12 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Admission to honours in Asian Studies (normally Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese or Korean) Synopsis: This subject will examine a number of issues relevant to understanding the changes occurring in Asia today. Some issues may be country specific, but many will relate to broader changes currently shaping Asia as a whole. Attention will also be given to epistemological issues related to what it means to know about Asia or to be Asia literate at the beginning of the twenty first century. The subject will train students in how to sharpen their focus in defining research topics and in how to participate in written discourse. Assessment: Literature review (2000 words): 25% + Research paper (4500 words): 50% + position paper (2500 words): 25% |
