ASN3071Theory and research in Asian studies(ART)
Ross Mouer 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Completion of one or more subjects with considerable Asian content or permission from subject co-ordinator Synopsis: The formulation of the problem consciousness, including attention to the literature review, the identification of key issues and concepts, significance, the units of analysis, the operationalisation of key concepts, sampling and aspects of writing a statement explaining a problem consciousness. Obtrusive and unobtrusive methodologies for gathering data: reading texts, observation and participant observation, using government data, interviewing and surveying. Various methods of recording data. Using resources about Asia in the libraries. Assembling findings and writing the final research paper. The aim is to provide students with the background necessary to create and to analyze data. Assessment: Written assignments (3500 words): 80% + Examination (1 hour): 20% |
