ARY3810An introduction to Middle Egyptian language(ART)
Colin A. Hope 6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: A first-year sequence in Archaeology or permission Synopsis: Middle Egyptian, the classic phase of the ancient Egyptian language, is studied in the hieroglyphic script. The subject presents a basic introduction outlining the major grammatical features and structure; in weekly assignments students translate into and from the language. Translation assignments are taken from ancient texts so that many of the typical types of document are studied. Assessment: 5 translation assignments (10% each): 50% + 2 class tests (25% each): 50% |
