Synopsis: The sociology and history of institutions in the arts and their relationships to the development of markets and audiences in Australia and internationally in the post-war period. Differences between not-for-profit and commercial arts organisations. Program planning, audience research and volunteer management. Alternative models of housing the arts, and venue and project management. Key aspects of arts administration and funding for large organisations. Topics of particular interest include career and incomes in the arts, the interaction between federal, state and local agencies, relationships between Australian and international art worlds and markets, fundraising and sponsorship.
