AIS2040Aboriginal People and the Law(ART)
to be advised 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton, Gippsland, distance + Prerequisites: a first-year sequence or approval + Prohibitions: AIS3040, GSC2802, KRS2040, KRS3040 (2000 and previously) Synopsis: This subject examines legislation for and against Aborigines. The Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission's report into 'The Stolen Generations' will be examined. Other topics will include Aboriginal customary law, government policies, acts, legislation, child removal policies, Aboriginal imprisonment rates and comparisons. Assessment: Tutorial presentation and written summary (700 words): 25% + Essay (1800 words): 35% + Examination (2 hours): 40% |
