6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton Synopsis: The epics attributed to Homer are written in a manner that is associated with the oral transmission of texts, and owe their style to a long bardic tradition of oral poetry. The subject aims through a study of the Homeric epics and archaeological evidence to explore the history, society and culture of pre-Classical Greece from the Mycenean period to the time when the Homeric epics were written.
