Target group

The Postgraduate Certificate of Education (TESOL - International) is designed for local and international students who wish to gain a qualification to teach English to speakers of other languages in overseas locations.

Course outline

For the award of Postgraduate Certificate of Education (TESOL - International), a candidate will successfully complete two 12-point subjects from the following list:

Special admission requirements

University studies:
A minimum of four years of approved university study.
Note: Should student want this qualification to be recognised by employment bodies in Australia, there is an additional requirement of teacher training recognised in Australia and would need to complete the following practicum subject during the course:
· EDF6238 Advanced practicum in language teaching.
English proficiency requirements:
Education in full English medium in an English speaking country or one of the following:
IELTS 6.5 global (speaking and writing no lower than 6)
TOEFL 577 with TWE of 4.5
Computer-based TOEFL 237

Length of course/workload required

This course requires a minimum of at least one semester of full-time study and no more than two years of part-time study. Each of the subjects is one semester in length. The expected number of hours per week for a part-time student is 24.
