Postgraduate
certificates and diplomas are designed for graduates who have completed a
fourth year of post-secondary study, usually in education. The normal duration
for each is one semester full-time or two semesters part-time for a
postgraduate certificate and two semesters full-time or four semesters
part-time for a postgraduate diploma.
Most postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas have been designed to
fully articulate with the Master of Education degree including its specialist
pathways.
The
Postgraduate Certificate of Education and the Postgraduate Diploma of Education
are designed to meet the needs of educators, educational administrators,
managers, policy-makers and others interested in learning and education and in
working in the wider educational community.
The programs are offered either as a generalist stream or as a series of
specialist streams. In the generalist stream, students will be able to choose
their subjects from across the broad spectrum of subjects offered in any one
year. In the specialist streams, subjects will be specified.
Students
may choose to enrol in the postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma and
carry the subjects completed into the relevant Master of Education pathway,
provided such articulation into the higher level qualification is done within
specified time limits.
Alternatively applicants may enrol in the Master of Education program and elect
to exit the course upon completion of the requirements for the postgraduate
certificate or the postgraduate diploma.
A diagrammatic representation of the articulated postgraduate program offered
by the faculty is shown below.
