The Master of Business Law is designed to provide rigorous theoretical and
practical knowledge in business law and to develop an understanding of and an
ability to analyse a wide range of legal problems arising in the practice of
business law. The course is of direct relevance to those involved in commerce,
either as legal advisers, or in the private, commercial, or government sectors.
The course will enhance relevant skills for students seeking placements in
legal commercial and governmental regulatory and compliance positions,
especially in Australia and Asia.
Applicants need to have completed a pass degree encompassing adequate prior
business law studies, and, normally, two years of relevant experience; or a
Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent law qualification at a high standard of
excellence. Applicants may be required to complete introductory law subjects
if, in the view of the course director, they are not adequately equipped to
enter the program without this preparation.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of
Business Law and Taxation as to the 2001 course fee. Course fees are set and
reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
The course comprises eight subjects of which up to two 9000-level subjects must be chosen from the following:

At least four level-5000 subjects chosen from the following (or two to three subjects if one to two level-5000 subjects are chosen from another department in the Faculty of Business and Economics, or another faculty):
Up to two level-5000
subjects (or equivalent) from other departments in the Faculty of Business and
Economics or from other faculties, with the approval of the course director.
