Graduate Diploma in Child Psychotherapy Studies


General information

Course code: 2281 Department of Psychological Medicine, Clayton campus Full-fee-paying course: fee $7200 (Australian residents); $11,600 (international students) Attendance is compulsory for some units

Aims

This course is directed primarily towards health, welfare and education professionals working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural problems and who wish to upgrade and develop their skills and understanding in the area. It aims to increase the participants' knowledge of psychoanalytic and developmental theory and the application of these to the treatment of children and adolescents with psychological difficulties and to consider how this knowledge may be applied in their own workplace. This course does not provide specialist clinical training.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a medical degree, a degree in the health sciences, a degree with a psychology major or an education degree at a pass level from an approved tertiary institution, or qualifications and/or experience which are equivalent.

Special requirements

Students will be required to have access to a computer with CD-ROM, modem and email facility.

Compulsory attendance requirements on-campus

One compulsory residential school for three or four days each year.

Assessment

Assessment will comprise regular assignments, interactive assessments and residential workshops.

Credits/exemptions

Recognition of prior learning in the area will be considered for studies of equivalent standing that were completed not more than five years previously. Up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the credit points would be considered.
