Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Mental Health)

Aims

This two-year, part-time course is designed for registered nurses who wish to pursue a career in mental health nursing. In this time of change in the provision of mental health services, there is an acute need for educational programs that will equip professional nurses with the specialist skills required by mental health care agencies at local, national and international levels. The course is offered by distance education and makes extensive use of computer technology to facilitate communication between students, teaching staff, clinical experts and consumers.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission, an applicant would normally have relevant registration (eg Division 1 with the Nurses Board of Victoria), have at least one year of nursing experience, and have a degree in nursing or related discipline.

Course structure

The Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Mental Health) consists of seven units, which will normally be completed over a period of two years. Successful completion of the course requires the study of three speciality units, and four elective units.
