Materials science

The discipline

This discipline is intended for students of physical science who seek an understanding of the structure and properties of solid materials and the relationships between them. It is given jointly by the departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Engineering. Studies in the subject commence at second-year level. Although there is no formal prerequisite, the recommended first-year studies include physics or chemistry. A major in materials science will include 12 points at level 1 in either of these two.
