General information

Note that students should contact their course adviser before enrolling in any stage of the double-degree program, to ensure that the program they wish to follow will satisfy prerequisites necessary for higher years. Note also that the program is available at Clayton campus only.

Students whose first enrolment in the BSc/BE was prior to 1999

Details of the permitted subject combinations for each branch of study in engineering will be set out in a faculty enrolment guide which will be provided to all students prior to re-enrolment in late 1999.

Requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in chemical engineering

The student requires, in addition to a completed Bachelor of Science degree, a further 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Engineering degree in level 3 and level 4 subjects of the course in chemical engineering.

Requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in civil engineering

The student requires, in addition to a completed Bachelor of Science degree, not less than a further 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Engineering degree, in subjects in the four levels of the course in civil engineering not already taken towards the BSc. The 96 credit points must include level 4 elective subjects (minimum 15 credit points) and an approved interfaculty subject in the humanities and social sciences (6 credit points).

Requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in electrical and computer systems engineering

The student requires, in addition to a completed Bachelor of Science degree, not less than a further 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Engineering degree in level 3 and level 4 subjects prescribed by the head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering.

Requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in materials engineering

The student requires, in addition to a completed Bachelor of Science degree, not less than a further 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Engineering degree in subjects prescribed by the head of the Department of Materials Engineering.

Requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering

The student requires, in addition to a completed Bachelor of Science degree, not less than a further 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Engineering degree in level 2, 3 and 4 subjects, as specified by the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Students whose first enrolment in the BSc/BE was in 1999 or 2000

The following requirements for first year apply to all students who have enrolled in the BSc/BE course for the first time in 1999 and 2000. Students proceeding to the second year of the course in 2000 should consult the faculty enrolment guide which will be provided prior to re-enrolment in late 1999.
The choice of either MTH1020 and MTH1030 or MTH1030 and MTH2010 in first year is determined by the level of preparation from VCE studies. See the Science section in this handbook for details of MTH1020 and MTH1030.
The Engineering subject ENG1602 should not be taken if CSE1301 is taken as one of the Science subjects.
The first two semesters of the course are largely common to all streams, with all students studying mathematics, some engineering subjects and either chemistry or physics. Students must contact their engineering course adviser before enrolling in any stage of the double-degree program, to ensure that the program they wish to follow will satisfy prerequisites necessary for higher years.
