Synopsis: Conventional approach to design and the design process; CAD, parametric and variational design, engineering analysis. CAE and integrated database management systems. Optimisation methods in CAD. Finite-element method and CAD. Applications of CAD/CAM technology, NC machinery, NC axes definitions, motor control, CNC and DNC machines, economics of NC, geometry description by programming, NC part and manual. APT programming language and statements, part geometry and design. Industrial robotics.. Computer-integrated manufacturing, implementation of CAD/CAM systems.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Tests and assignments: 40%
