Synopsis: This subject will focus on the ethical and social doctrines in early Buddhist texts, and their implications for questions of politics, and, adopting an interdisciplinary approach, explore a number of philosophical and political issues, including human relationships, women and family, race, caste and identity, and equality, freedom and human rights.

Assessment: Exercise (1000 words): 10% + Two research essays (3000 words each): 60% + Examination (2 hours): 30%
