6 points + Three 1-hour lectures and a 2-hour laboratory class per week + First semester + Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Gippsland, distance + Distance students must complete a minimum of 12 hours on-campus weekend school laboratory work + Prohibitions: WEL1320, WEL1340, BHS1320, BHS1340, GSC1306, GSC1307, APY1910 and any first-level psychology subjects taught at Monash prior to 1998.
Synopsis: Introduction to the discipline of psychology as a behavioural science. Topics include personality, the biological bases of behaviour, sensation and perception, and an introduction to theories of learning and development. Introduction to the historical origins of the discipline. Laboratory classes enhance students0 understanding of the lecture material and provide training in research techniques.
Assessment: Laboratory report (1500 words each): 15% + Two laboratory exercises (500 words each): 20% + Essay (1500 words): 15% + Examination (2 hours, multiple-choice): 50%
