Synopsis: The Honours year aims to develop analytic abilities and research skills. Training is in the context of a scientific project, with an aim to also develop broad generic skills. Students undertake a research project forming the basis of a thesis presented at the end of the year and involving experiments of a publishable standard. They also present an essay in an area outside the field of their research project. They are trained in advanced scientific techniques, critical reading of scientific literature, and the use of statistical tools for analysis. Further, core and optional lectures/tutorials on advanced aspects of physiology and other training areas provide a means to broaden their skills.

Assessment: Research report: 60% + Written examinations: 20% + Essay, seminars and supervisor assessment: 20%
