12 points made up from two 6 point half-semester units + Four 1-hour lectures and six hours practical per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: PHY2051 and PHY2062, or BMS1052 and BMS 2031, or permission + Prohibition: PHY3022 + Available to BSc(Biomed) students
Synopsis: Explores cutting-edge research areas in human physiology, in the Department or affiliated institutions. Students choose at least two of six specialised units, each unit being six weeks long (half-semester units). Units in the first half of semester are "The body in balance: the nervous system and internal harmony", "Clinical and experimental cardiovascular physiology" and "Sex, reproduction and society". The second half offers "Sensation and movement", "Muscle and exercise" and "Developmental physiology". Each unit details current research ideas on normal function and dysfunction in that area, and new methodologies. Emphasis is on assisted self directed learning and project based learning.
Assessment: In-semester assessment: 40% (in different units this will consist of 2000 word reports on projects or assignments or 1 hour-multiple choice tests, or a combination of these)+ Written theory examination (3 hours) : 60%
