Synopsis: A reading of Heidegger0s complex text. Introduction to Husserl0s phenomenology including the relationship between Husserl0s phenomenology and Heidegger0s /way into being0. Selected passages of Being and time will be analysed in detail, in order to throw light on the meaning and origins of Heidegger0s influence on recent French philosophy, in particular, his influence on Sartre and critique of Sartre0s use of his concepts. There will also be some discussion of the development of his ideas by Derrida.

Assessment: Two essays (3000 words each) or essay and exam (3 hours): 50% each
