Synopsis: The broad aim of the subject is to examine and utilise nursing processes and frameworks in planning for the care of specific population groups, communities and families emphasising their health improvement and wellbeing. The subject demonstrates the use of concepts and tools of public health, primary health care and community development/action processes in nursing practice. Students develop community profiles, prioritise health problems and their burden of ill-health for a community and identify and plan for health solutions relevant to their practice setting. Cooperative learning processes are encouraged through the use of case scenarios and structured reflection.

Assessment: Essay 25%, Case Conferencing 15%, Project: proposal 10%, Project: 50%
