Synopsis: Musical, aesthetic, social and ritual concepts and practices as expressed in the musical life of sub-Saharan African cultures, with particular reference to selected performances of music and dance, the relationships between music and the related arts, and the topology of musical instruments in sub-Sahara Africa.

Assessment: Written (2500 words): 40% + Assignment (500 words): 15% + Examination (3 hours) 45%
