Synopsis: Subject introduces students to approaches to interpretation and performance of contemporary music, including the use of music technology. It examines how composers articulate their musical ideas and how performers translate these into coherent sonic forms. Different performance styles are explored through a range of musical scores, including those prepared by the department0s composition students. Students will investigate the performance of contemporary music as creation of an aesthetic entity, the final form of which is largely the responsibility of the performer, rather than that of the composer. Students will learn to assess their own ability in interpreting and creating today0s music.
