Synopsis: Methods of studying drug utilisation and drug safety including data sources and their limitations, defined daily dose extrapolations, spontaneous report monitoring and its limitations, application of formal epidemiological study design to postmarketing surveillance, the background to recent drug safety problems, record linkage and regulation of drugs.
