Synopsis: Introduction to the field of human resource management. Topics include the strategic role of human resource management, the contribution of HRM to competitive advantage, ethics, job design, staffing, performance management, strategic compensation and reward systems, legal issues in HRM, occupational health and safety, developing employee capabilities and assessment of HRM strategies and practices.

Assessment: On campus (syndicate work of 4000 words, 35%; individual work of 3000 words, 50%; class work, 15%): 100% + Distance (written assignments of 3000 and 1000 words, 50%; examination of 3 hours, 50%): 100%
