Synopsis: An examination of areas of the law of international institutions with emphasis on major global inter-governmental institutions in the Asia-Pacific. Topics include historical development of international institutions, theories of international institutions, legal status of international instiutions (legal personality, privileges and immunities, treaty making capacity),the United Nations and related agencies (objectives, structure, membership and participation, decision-making process, efficacy, proposals for reform), international economic institutions in the Asia Pacific region )ASEAN, APEC and prospects for future development).
Assessment: Research paper (3000 words): 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50%
