Synopsis: On completion of this subject students should have an understanding of: the nature of managerial work in organisations; theories of management and their historical development; the management of people as individuals and in groups; the importance of leadership and motivation; the principles by which change is introduced into organisations; and the key factors in the organisation's environment that impact on how managers and organisations work.

Assessment: Written (assignments 1500 words and 2500 words): 15% and 25% + Tutorial participation 10% + Examination (2 hours) 50%
