Synopsis: On completion of this subject students should have an understanding of: the nature of managerial work in organisations; theories of management and their historical development; the management of people as individuals and groups; the importance of leadership and motivation; the principles by which change is introduced into organisations; the key factors in the organisation's environment that impact on how managers and organisations work.

Assessment: On campus (assignment one, 20%; assignment two, 20%; tutorial presentation, 10%; examination of 3 hours, 50%): 100% + Distance (assignment one, 20%; assignment two, 30%; examination of 3 hours, 50%): 100%
