Synopsis: An overview of the major issues and areas of responsibility of human resource management (HRM). The role of HRM in organisations. The underlying theme is the contribution HRM can make through its responsibilities for the effective use of staff to facilitate the achievement of organisational objectives.

Assessment: Distance (assignment one of 2000 words, 20%; assignment two of 2000 words, 30%; examination of 3 hours, 50%): 100% + On campus (assignment one of 2000 words, 20%; assignment two of 2000 words, 20%; class presentation, 10%; examination, 50%): 100%
