Synopsis: Unit 1: Cell and molecular biology - Cell and tissue architecture, especially the structure and dynamics of cell membranes; chromosomes and gene expression, including principles of gene cloning; molecular aspects of cell growth and differentiation, including the impact of viruses on cell function. + Unit 2: Basic haematology - The development and morphology of the cellular components of blood, red blood cells, anaemia, vitamins B12 and folic acid, iron metabolism, the function and disorders of white blood cells, coagulation and platelet function and measurement in haematology.
Assessment: Cell and molecular biology: Examination (including content of syndicate sessions) 2 hrs: 85% + syndicate sessions 15% Haematology: Examination (held in conjunction with 'Cell and molecular biology III') 1 hr: 100%
