Synopsis: Evolution of life on earth, the appearance of the primates. New world and old world monkeys and the apes. Hominid evolution and radiation. Human mating systems and sexual selection. Population growth, environmental destruction and our ultimate fate as a species. Human genetics and medicine including the role of mutations in selection, the transmission of genetic information between generations by meiosis, abnormalities resulting from mitotic and meiotic errors, the inheritance of single gene defects, polygenetic inheritance, population genetics and genetic counselling.

Assessment: Examination (2 hrs): 75% + Essay: 25%
